A study on conducting a Q&A session at a networking event.

AIMlearning participant Joonas Ojakangas conducted a study on applications with Q&A capabilities for an event organized by the client company Rohki Events. A demo presentation of the Pigeonhole application has also been made.

Describe your project task.

  • The project was to create visual elements for Rohki Events’ Buusti Business Meet event and to enhance participant interactivity through a live chat feature.

How did you approach solving your project task?

  • The first task was to find applications that could be used for this purpose and compare them. Ideally, the applications should be free, but prices and features needed to be compared across different applications. The goal was to find an application that would make participant login as easy and effortless as possible.
  • For the applications, I initially chose Teams, Questionwave, Slido, Flinga, and Mentimeter.
  • From these five, I selected what I considered to be the three best options: Slido, Teams, and Questionwave. However, Teams and Questionwave were not optimal because Teams required login and Questionwave lacked moderation capabilities. Therefore, Slido remained the best option.
  • After this, I moved on to testing the applications and learning how to use them. However, I quickly realized that Slido was not sufficient due to the maximum character limit for messages.
  • So, I went back to the beginning and ended up choosing Pigeonhole Live, which was very similar to Slido. Pigeonhole had all the same features as Slido, and the character limit for messages was larger.

How did you solve/finalize your project task?

  • The next part of the project was to create a short demo to present to Rohki Events. The platform used was Pigeonhole Live, where a live chat was created for participants, and they could join it with a password or QR code. Introductions for the event speakers were also created in the mobile application for the participants.
  • I believe the result was good because I was able to create a functional live chat for the event, which participants could easily join, and it was also possible to moderate comments during the event.

What did you learn from your project task?

  • During the project, I learned about several applications that can be used for such a project. I learned the most about using the Pigeonhole Live service, which I found to be the best choice, at least in its free version.
  • I was also able to utilize some of my graphic design skills in designing the appearance of the event’s application.
  • The feedback from the supervisors was positive regarding the quick action and progress of the project.
